  • Psoas?... So What?

    You may or may not have heard of the Psoas (pronounced "so-as"), but this muscle is located deep in the core and connects the lower spine to the lower body. It helps to flex the hip joint and lifts the upper legs towards the body. It directly affects the lumbar spine and pelvis. When the psoas is tight, it pulls the lower spine downward creating compression and tension. This can result in low back and hip pain. The psoas is also referred to as the, "Muscle of the Soul," because it holds onto traumatic experiences at the cellular level.   • Food and Inflammation - Take it from me!

    Being mindful of what we eat is a wonderful way to support our health and reduce pain and inflammation. There are foods that may cause pain and discomfort to spike due to swelling within the body. Take it from me! This past weekend, we had a lovely family outing. I opted to indulge one of the days and consume foods high in sodium. My face was visibly puffy the next day. Take a look at the images below. The top one was taken the day after eating salty foods, the bottom picture was from a day after eating a well-balanced diet and drinking plenty of water. With these noticeable differences in my face after an evening of inflammatory foods, imagine what eating that way consistently could do to the body. If we are trying to resolve pain and dysfunction, approaching it holistically is the only way to achieve the results we want effectively and naturally.
